The Language of Leaders

I. Leaders Apologize
Being happy rarely comes from being right.

II. Leaders Agree
Healthy disagreement requires agreement first.

III. Leaders Listen
Listen to hear, don't listen to speak.

Reflection

Have you ever set up a line of dominoes? Slowly and carefully, each domino is placed in exactly the right spot. With one gentle tap, the entire line falls in a matter of seconds. This is the power of communication in leadership.

Communication is everything. One offhand remark or careless action can have a ripple effect within our teams and organizations. When we get to the root of it, communication is made up of three things: what we don't say, what we do say, and how we say it.

Take a moment to reflect. As a leader, what message are you communicating? The language of a leader balances grace and truth. Leaders build up, encourage, challenge, and correct. Our language eventually becomes our legacy — let's be leaders who communicate with clarity, humility, and understanding.
