The 3 C's of Empathy

Resources, Leadership, and Ways to Connect

The 3 C's of Empathy

I. Be Curious, Not Critical
Stop making assumptions and start asking questions

II. Be Careful, Not Crushing
Choose a sensitive and slow approach over a course and callous one

III. Connect Before You Correct
People need to know how much you care before they care how much you know

Reflection

Would you believe me if I told you that there is a secret to success?

Henry Ford once said, “If there is any one secret of success, it lies in the ability to get the other person's point of view and see things from that person's angle as well as from your own.” The secret ingredient to leadership is empathy.

If we want to go the distance as leaders, we have to learn to consistently put ourselves in somebody else's shoes and see a situation from the other side. It's not a one-time decision; it's a skill to develop and perspective to walk out daily. Let's commit to being leaders who care — the success of our teams, businesses, and organizations depends on it.
