Mark 10:46-52
Then they came to Jericho. As Jesus and his disciples, together with a large crowd, were leaving the city, a blind man, Bartimaeus (which means “son of Timaeus”), was sitting by the roadside begging. When he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to shout, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” Many rebuked him and told him to be quiet, but he shouted all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!” Jesus stopped and said, “Call him.” So they called to the blind man, “Cheer up! On your feet! He’s calling you.” Throwing his cloak aside, he jumped to his feet and came to Jesus. “What do you want me to do for you?” Jesus asked him. The blind man said, “Rabbi, I want to see.” “Go,” said Jesus, “your faith has healed you.” Immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus along the road.

Are you waiting on a miracle? The space between where we are and where we want to be requires hope, and hope is fueled by vision. We’ve all heard the saying, “don’t get your hopes up.” While it’s intended to protect us from disappointment, it’s not how we’re designed to wait. The longer we wait, the easier it is to begin losing hope, but the good news is that we aren’t called to keep our hopes up, we’re called to put our hope in God. By clinging close to God’s word, we are reminded that hurt does not have to steal our hope. Time is never wasted waiting on God.
God is preparing us for what He has prepared for us
When you have a vision, it’s normal to get your hopes up and be excited for your answered desire. However, hope deferred makes the heart sick. In scripture, God doesn’t call us to hold our hope up on our own but to place our hope in Him. A sign that you are putting your hope in God is the attitude you keep while you wait. The first thing in our power is always to pray. When you pray about your needs, God changes your perspective around those needs. While waiting is inevitable, we have a choice in how we wait.
Vision gives birth to passion. Passion is something of great value, and should never be lost sight of, but it's important for us to remember that just because we’re passionate, doesn’t always mean that we’re ready! If you feel like you're in the fire, it's because God is still working; setting you up for when it's His perfect timing. Proverbs tells us that “an inheritance claimed too soon will not be blessed at the end”. When we stop opening our own doors, and wait on God to open them for us, His blessings will come forth and the fruit of His Spirit will be magnified in our life.
“An inheritance claimed too soon will not be blessed at the end.” — Proverbs 20:21
God is slow until he’s not. We can move forward confidently knowing that while we wait, God is working. When the waiting feels like too much, when the burden of longing feels too heavy, we can stand tall as we carry the weight of hope. In the waiting, God is faithfully, carefully, and intentionally preparing us to walk into what He promised. How do we know when we’re ready? Jesus will tell us. Until then, we do everything we can and surrender the rest, putting our hope in Jesus and trusting that God will always complete what he begins
Oswald Chambers said, “Prayer does not fit us for the greater work, it is the greater work.” As we prepare to do everything we can, the first step is always to pray. Pause and take inventory of the promises you’re waiting for. Take each one to God in prayer — ask Him for vision and the courage to hope. Surrender every piece that is out of your hands and watch as God deepens your trust in him.
