What, after all, is Apollos? And what is Paul? Only servants, through whom you came to believe—as the Lord has assigned to each his task. 6 I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God made it grow. 7 So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow. 8 The man who plants and the man who waters have one purpose, and each will be rewarded according to his own labor. 9 For we are God’s fellow workers; you are God’s field, God’s building.
REFERENCE: GENESIS 8:22
A close look at seeds will reveal a variety of colors, sizes, and textures. But aside from outward appearance, what makes a mere seed beautiful is its potential. Practically limitless, there’s no telling the bounty stored up in the confines of its shell. Yet the promise of the seed doesn’t come to fruition unless it is planted. How fitting an analogy for our lives. Seedtime and harvest, there’s always an opportunity for us to take what may be considered minuscule, sow or invest it, and trust God to grow it into more than what we started with. When it comes to God's kingdom some do the planting, some do the watering, and some do the pruning—we each have a part to play in God’s great gardening project. So it doesn’t matter how insignificant a contribution may seem, as we give to the Church, God makes the impossible possible. From joining the Zoom, serving on a team, to giving finances, these acts of faith are the seeds of a lush and thriving garden. So we don’t hold back from giving with our whole heart, because we understand seeds don’t grow in hand but in soil. The act of faith is in generously letting go. The act of wisdom is in choosing fertile ground. The act of God is in fruitful growth. We collaborate with God himself to see miracles in motion. A collaborating heart is a generous heart. Generosity is not about us, but about God and the generations to come. All by his name and for his glory.
Live a life of generosity so others can live a life of opportunity.
Too often we underestimate the impact one small act of faith today can have in unlocking big opportunities tomorrow. God involves us in the process of his miracle by asking us to trust him enough to plant the seed.
The Church is a prime example of a tiny seed transformed into a bountiful garden. It has gained momentum because it’s been cultivated from one generation to the next. To see growth in our lives requires tending that takes patience and even some pruning. It’s not easy, but God promises it’s worth it.
God has afforded us the opportunity to partner with him and be a part of his story. When it comes to planting and pruning the choice is ours. God himself sows many seeds in our lives but through obedience and diligence, it is up to us to ensure our soil is healthy, our intentions are pure. In our hands the seed, the time, the talent, the treasure, may look small and making the decision to sow can seem intimidating. But with trust in God, we will never fail to gain a return. On the other side of sacrifice there is breakthrough. Every seed we release today will bear fruit that will feed generations to come. Our role as believers is to rest in the finished work of the cross by planting and cultivating seeds and watching God produce the harvest. We’re not to maintain our faith, we’re to multiply it. When we trust the God of the harvest with our seeds, they grow strong all for his glory.
