Last Crew's Call to Action

God calls for us to forgive while maintaining boundaries necessary to steward and nurture our souls. This week, lean in to the wisdom of Solomon and study the book of Proverbs to help you develop tools for cultivating Godly relationships while asking God for the courage to forgive. Scripture

Acts 1: 4-5, 8 NIV & Acts 2:1-4

On one occasion, while he was eating with them, he gave them this command: “Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about. For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.”  But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them.  All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues] as the Spirit enabled them.

Additional scripture references: Ezekiel 37:9 -14,John 3:8, Acts 2:5 -18, Acts 2:41

Main Idea

Pentecost Sunday has that name because Pentecost means fifty; 50 days after the Resurrection of Jesus, when God gave us the Holy Spirit. It's also 50 days after Passover, when God gave Moses the 10 commandments. The 10 commandments were the Law that God wrote down on Stone Tablets. Now that we house the presence of God, He has also written His law on our Hearts, through the gift of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit can be viewed as a gift given to us by God, to guide us through our walk with Him. In the Bible, wind is used as an icon, or representation, of the Holy Spirit. Like the wind, just because we can’t see the Holy Spirit doesn’t mean that we can’t feel him. As the winds of change enter our lives, it is important to cling close to God and turn to the Holy Spirit for guidance. Wind represents the very breath of God. It is crucial to not give up because everything changes when the wind blows.

Just like the wind, God rearranges our life to create something new.

1. Wind Creates & Strengthens

In a valley of dead and dry bones God spoke to the prophet Ezekiel and asked if these dry bones could live again. Then he created new life out of nothing before Ezekiel’s eyes. Today, the Holy Spirit creates life and breathes power; transforming and strengthening many who were dead in sin, to new life through Christ.

Then He said to me, “Prophesy to the breath, prophesy, son of man, and say to the breath, ‘Thus says the Lord God, “Come from the four winds, O breath, and breathe on these slain, that they come to life.”’” So I prophesied as He commanded me, and the breath came into them, and they came to life and stood on their feet, an exceedingly great army. Then He said to me, “Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel”- Ezekiel 37:9-14

Evangelism without power is empty
A fresh wind from the Holy Spirit also creates new life by blowing away complacency and harmful thought patterns
The Holy Spirit creates: life, clarity, peace & joy

When wind blows on what is dead, it comes back to life.

What circumstance in your life needs a fresh wind from God?

2. How to Unlock the Wind

In the days of the early Church, we see the disciples of Jesus become baptized with the Holy Spirit after they professed belief in Jesus Christ. Their baptism followed after they had obeyed the words of Jesus and unified themselves as one body in Jerusalem.

He gave them this command: “Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised” - Acts 1: 4

To receive the Spirit we must listen to the instructions of Jesus
To see a corporate move of God you have to start believing that your presence and participation matter
The Holy Spirit does not just come through emotion, communication, and information but through discipline, submission, and conviction

His presence, power, and provision is proportional to our obedience and unity.

How can we become better stewards of what the Father wants to do here on earth through the Holy Spirit?

Summary

Wind creates, strengthens, and sends in ways that add, remove, and rearrange. Just like the wind, God rearranges, creates movement, and shifts our lives according to His plans. It’s never too late to ask the Holy Spirit for guidance to push forward in our obedience to God. By speaking to the Holy Spirit, we allow God to illuminate areas in our life and make room for Him to work. When life knocks the wind out of us, we can always call upon God to catch our breath.

Call To Action

Revive yourself through a fresh word by studying the Book of Acts and ask the Father to make you aware of the voice of the Holy Spirit.

Scripture

Ephesians 3:20-21 NKJV

Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.

Main Idea

Life often doesn't meet our expectations, leading to frustration and disappointment. We may hope for one outcome, only to be met with something entirely different, creating a gap between what we expected and what we experienced. This gap can lead us to question God, our faith, and our hope. But through stories like that of Lazarus and Job, we learn that God isn’t in the business of just meeting expectations, He’s in the business of exceeding them.

God’s power to perform exceeds our ability to ask

1. Hope and Expectation

Faith grows through hope and trusting God’s timing. Positive expectations can fuel faith, while unmet expectations can lead to disappointment. Often, we expect something specific from God but find ourselves limiting Him to only a particular outcome. When we don’t see Him come through just as we expected, we can find ourselves frustrated and disappointed — where was God? The truth is, God is always at work. We may not always see Him moving, or understand His plan, but He has something greater in mind.

Disappointment can tempt us to give up on expectations, but it’s an opportunity to strengthen our faith
God’s plans always exceed our expectations
Don't allow your expectations of what God was “supposed” to do get in the way of what He wants to do

If God always met your expectations, how could He ever exceed them?

What areas of your life are you waiting for God to show up? How can you operate from faith in the present as you hope for the future?

2. Endurance and Enjoyment

Job’s story is a powerful example of enduring pain and disappointment without losing faith. Even in his suffering, Job declared, “Though He slay me, yet will I hope in Him.” Despite the immense loss, he continued to trust God, showing us that our hope can remain, even in the midst of struggle. Endurance is the ability to trust that God is working, even when we can’t see it.

Endurance strengthens our faith through trials
God hasn’t called us to merely endure life, He’s called us to enjoy it
Enjoying life is appreciating the little, it’s not a pain-free life, but a grateful one

We can say: “God, I don’t understand everything but I trust you in everything”

How has a difficult season strengthened your appreciation for God’s blessings?

Summary

Possibly the greatest source of frustration in life is unmet expectations. The difference between what we expected versus what we experienced often leads us to stop expecting. But there’s an invitation of faith amidst the frustration. Don’t lower your expectations; lift your faith. Give God something to exceed. God can do it, the question is: can you believe it?

Call To Action

Identify areas where you may be limiting God by expecting a specific outcome. Practice finding gratitude by celebrating the little things.
