1 Corinthians 6:12-20
12 “I have the right to do anything,” you say—but not everything is beneficial. “I have the right to do anything”—but I will not be mastered by anything. 13 You say, “Food for the stomach and the stomach for food, and God will destroy them both.” The body, however, is not meant for sexual immorality but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body. 14 By his power God raised the Lord from the dead, and he will raise us also. 15 Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ himself? Shall I then take the members of Christ and unite them with a prostitute? Never! 16 Do you not know that he who unites himself with a prostitute is one with her in body? For it is said, “The two will become one flesh.” 17 But whoever is united with the Lord is one with him in spirit. 18 Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against their own body. 19 Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 20 you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.

What is the current state of your bedroom? Is it organized and tidy or is it cluttered and messy? How we manage one thing is how we often manage everything else. The state of our external environment is a reflection of who we are and how we maintain our mind, body and soul. Treating our body as a temple begins with understanding what God intended it for. We can steward our body in a healthy way by prioritizing God in our life. Spiritual formation is not just a philosophy, it requires us to take daily action to practice the wisdom given to us to live happy, healthy, and holy.
What you do with your body is either helping it or it’s hindering it.
1. Evil Thrives on Confusion
Our bodies, our planet, the laws of gravity are all happening under God’s rule and reign because He is a God of order. The enemy will try to confuse us with lies that cause indecision and lack of clarity in many aspects of our lives; however, when we follow the truth and divine order of God’s teachings, we will have the peace and confidence to make good choices.
And you shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free. John 8:32
2. Your Body is a Temple
It’s common to hear the phrase “my body, my choices,” but is this really true? We’re designed perfectly in God’s image; He owns our life and this means our bodies, too. Having this in mind, we constantly need to remind ourselves that our body is not in control of our lives, but God is.
When Jesus died on the cross, he provided the ultimate sacrifice for us. It should be our reasonable response, to cherish and honor what he has purchased. Although we can know this truth, it is not always easy to recognize our bodies as a temple, especially in areas where the enemy has planted confusion. What God requires of us is not to depend on willpower or adrenaline to sustain a walk with him, but rather a heart that desires Him above all else. As we discipline our bodies by adopting new spiritual practices, we can win the day as our healthy habits begin to add up.
As 21 days of prayer + fasting have ended, spend some time with God this week to reflect on all He has spoken to you during this season. Identify and write down old habits you would like to change, and new habits you would like to develop. Choose one habit to work on over the next 21 days.
