Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. 2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

Main Idea

What’s on your psyche? Chances are you might have 100 thoughts floating around, some good and some bad. It's difficult to separate ourselves from our thoughts, which is why we should recognize our thoughts and minds are powerful and an important part of our soul. Good psychology outflows from healthy spirituality, gifted to us by God as we repent and change our mindsets to the truth of God’s word. The transformation of the mind will change your life and is a journey that starts by surrendering to God. Even though we live in a world where our minds are constantly bombarded with all kinds of information and ideas, to be happy, healthy and Holy requires a daily choice to stop thinking like the world and become a living sacrifice to God.


We have to adopt Jesus’s teaching to get happy, healthy, and Holy.

1. Memories

Past memories can influence present perceptions. Yet, we can break this pattern and transform our lives by letting God’s word renew our mind. In processing memories of our past, God calls us to refocus our mind on Him. Reframing our memories allows past joys and sorrows to sharpen the tools He gave us to serve His Kingdom.


Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. Philippians 4:8

As we obey God, He shows up at just the right time.
While memories may influence us today, we are not our past; our true identities are found in the Lord.
It is said that our thoughts shape our life. As we draw our mind closer to God, our life transforms.

Like a caterpillar turning into a butterfly, we too can transform our life as we seek better and higher things in Christ.

How can we let God reframe a past memory into something positive that serves us today?

2. What you perceive, leads to what you believe

Our perception of the world shapes our beliefs, and the way we live our lives everyday. Although it's common to hear people use the term “my truth”,  as believers we hold onto the absolute truth, God’s truth. Perceiving life the way God intends for us, requires us to reframe our perception. Where our focus goes, our life follows. Let’s hold true to the belief we have in Jesus, and the ultimate sacrifice he made for us. Not only to give us eternity, but also full peace, joy and freedom in our reality.

Don't perceive things based on what they are, but on who you are
A belief is that which you hold to be absolutely true
We need to reinforce our belief in God’s truth everyday

Summary

Politician Arthur Fletcher once famously said that “A mind is a terrible thing to waste.” However, when we build our memories, perceptions, and beliefs on the foundation of Christ Jesus our minds become an invaluable tool for transformation. With the constant renewal of our thoughts according to God’s will, positive and productive changes are sure to follow.

Main Idea

Life often doesn't meet our expectations, leading to frustration and disappointment. We may hope for one outcome, only to be met with something entirely different, creating a gap between what we expected and what we experienced. This gap can lead us to question God, our faith, and our hope. But through stories like that of Lazarus and Job, we learn that God isn’t in the business of just meeting expectations, He’s in the business of exceeding them.

God’s power to perform exceeds our ability to ask

1. Hope and Expectation

Faith grows through hope and trusting God’s timing. Positive expectations can fuel faith, while unmet expectations can lead to disappointment. Often, we expect something specific from God but find ourselves limiting Him to only a particular outcome. When we don’t see Him come through just as we expected, we can find ourselves frustrated and disappointed — where was God? The truth is, God is always at work. We may not always see Him moving, or understand His plan, but He has something greater in mind.

Disappointment can tempt us to give up on expectations, but it’s an opportunity to strengthen our faith
God’s plans always exceed our expectations
Don't allow your expectations of what God was “supposed” to do get in the way of what He wants to do

If God always met your expectations, how could He ever exceed them?

What areas of your life are you waiting for God to show up? How can you operate from faith in the present as you hope for the future?

2. Endurance and Enjoyment

Job’s story is a powerful example of enduring pain and disappointment without losing faith. Even in his suffering, Job declared, “Though He slay me, yet will I hope in Him.” Despite the immense loss, he continued to trust God, showing us that our hope can remain, even in the midst of struggle. Endurance is the ability to trust that God is working, even when we can’t see it.

Endurance strengthens our faith through trials
God hasn’t called us to merely endure life, He’s called us to enjoy it
Enjoying life is appreciating the little, it’s not a pain-free life, but a grateful one

We can say: “God, I don’t understand everything but I trust you in everything”

How has a difficult season strengthened your appreciation for God’s blessings?

Summary

Possibly the greatest source of frustration in life is unmet expectations. The difference between what we expected versus what we experienced often leads us to stop expecting. But there’s an invitation of faith amidst the frustration. Don’t lower your expectations; lift your faith. Give God something to exceed. God can do it, the question is: can you believe it?

Call To Action

Identify areas where you may be limiting God by expecting a specific outcome. Practice finding gratitude by celebrating the little things.
