We must remember that we are one nation under God and that we are called to live with love for others.
“So give your servant a discerning heart to govern your people and to distinguish between right and wrong. For who is able to govern this great people of yours?” -1 Kings 3:9
There’s been differences that have divided us over the years. Whether it's religion, ethnicity, political points of views, etc. But we must remind ourselves that we are one nation and that we are called to honor, respect and love one another, despite our opinions, circumstances or ways of living. And that goes with our authorities as well.
We might not be happy about who the people in government positions are or the decisions they make. But we are not called to judge them or disrespect them. We are called, as God’s children, to honor them and pray for them so they can have clarity and discernment while they attempt to make the country a better one.
Take a moment to reflect and think about what you can do in your life to grow in love for others, dignify their lives and be intentional in making them feel respected and included. You can also decide today to honor and pray for the authorities of our nation and ask for wisdom and diligence in their lives and the way they lead.
Take some time to say this prayer:
God, grow in me a heart that strives to treat others with love. Help me to have grace for them and for my authorities, to honor them even when they make decisions that I don’t necessarily agree with. I pray that you cover our nation and fill it with peace and joy, that you never lose sight of our needs and our longing for your love. Amen.
