Are you wearing a beautiful, fake smile on your face today? What is really going on inside your heart?
“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” - 2 Timothy 1:7
It's surprising how many people hide behind the “happy smile” mask but are actually struggling with depression and anxiety. If this is you today, I want to remind you, that just like 2 Timothy 1:7 says, God has given you a spirit of a sound mind. And you shouldn’t be afraid of opening up to him about what you are going through!
There’s no need for you to pretend like there’s nothing going on inside of your heart. The more you hide it the harder it is to get it healed. Depression is real, and is nothing you should be ashamed of. Your mental health is important. So I want to encourage you to open your heart and share what you are feeling with someone you can trust and who can really help you and walk with you through this season.
But also make sure to spend some time with God. Be honest and vulnerable with him about what’s going on inside your mind. He wants to listen to you. What thoughts have you been fighting with? What discouraging feelings are you struggling to overcome? Ask him for his help understanding what you are going through and for him to guide you in the healing process.
And if it isn’t you who is going through this, pray for that family member or that friend who’s been having a hard time with their mental health. Pray for calmness and peace over their lives and for God to give you the wisdom to be of help to them.
